It’s tough to turn down a trip to the Emerald Isle of Ireland and there’s no visiting this land of legend without visiting the eastern coast city of Dublin!
Dublin has more history than most places in Europe. It’s been a place of commerce and social importance for centuries. It’s literally the place to go when visiting Ireland and since it’s still part of the UK, it still is one of the most populace cities with almost 2 million people within it’s main area. It was actually originally founded by the Vikings and grew from there as the place to be and do business.
Whatever you’re looking for you’ll find it in Dublin but most of interest are the people and cultural spots that have history literally written all over them. In just this one area alone you’ll find museums, parks, ancient castles, churches, restaurants, bars, pubs, night clubs, shopping, and more. Matter of fact in the past ten years, Ireland has become quite the spot to visit because of the great food, drink, shopping and more. Things have really popped up good to such degree that you can take tours to the surrounding area via rail. These train rides are so much fun that many people go to the region just to take as many train rides as possible to the surrounding areas.
For people who like the spirits, the ones that come in a glass or mug, you’ll find as many pubs, some several hundred years old still serving up the stouts and whiskey. No pub worth it’s Guinness exists without great food and good neighbors. That’s one of the big appeals of Dublin and Ireland as a tourist spot overall. The friendliness and warmth of how the country is laid out and how welcome you feel visiting.
If you feel like getting married there you won’t find a shortage of priests and preachers ready to tie the knot before. Dublin’s seen its share of weddings bar none and the folks in the region know how to put together a good wedding.
Dublin is actually like one giant theme park. You have walks that take you all around the countryside, you have rails, bicycle paths, wagons, horses, and you might find a skateboarder or two.
Just wait until you see the castles! That will bring out the romantic in anyone and you can take part in festivals that recreate historic events at these sites as well as see theatre, music concerts and more. You’ve got other places like the Dublin Writer’s Museum, Dublin Castle, Dalkey Island, the Dublin Zoo, Kilmainham Gaol the infamous prison. There’s the National Maritime Museum, the magnificent Phoenix Park probably the largest urban park within Europe. You’ve got the Old Jameson Distillery, the Pearse Museum and several colleges.
Remember you’ve got North County Dublin, South County Dublin and Dublin City Center sandwiched between the two.
You really can’t go wrong with Dublin as a vacation spot. It’s got the best of the old and the new with enough sights and sounds and some of the finest people you’ll ever meet.
